When about backlinks, more is not always better. In fact, having too many low quality backlinks can actually hurt your website’s ranking on search engines. That’s why it’s important to regularly analyze your backlink profile and remove any links that could be harming your site.

The first step is to check where your backlinks are coming from. You can do this using a free tool like Open Site Explorer. Just enter your website’s URL and click “Search.”

Once you have the results, take a look at the “Top Pages” section. This will show you which pages on your site have the most links pointing to them. If you see any pages with a lot of low quality or spammy links, you’ll want to remove those links (more on that later).

Next, click on the “Inbound Links” tab and sort the results by PageRank (PR). PR is a measure of how valuable Google thinks a particular page is. The higher the PR of a page linking to yours, the more valuable that link is considered to be.

Ideally, you want most of your backlinks to come from high PR pages. If you see that most of your links are coming from low PR pages, that’s an indication that they’re not very valuable and could be hurting your site’s ranking.

To get an idea of what kinds of backlinks are considered high quality, take a look at this list of Google’s 200 Ranking Factors. As you can see, there are quite a few factors involved in determining whether or not a link is valuable. But in general, links from high traffic websites in your niche or industry are going to be more valuable than other kinds of links. So if most of the pages linking to yours have a “PR” of 4 or 5, then those are probably pretty good links. On the other hand, if most of the pages linking to yours have only 1 s or 2s, then those aren’t going generate much value for you and could even harm your rankings. Another factor to consider when looking at the PR values is the number of outbound links each page has. A page with many outbound links will generally have lower PR values than a page with fewer outbound links.

Repurpose Your Content

For example, if you have a blog post that’s doing well, you can turn it into a video or an info graphic and submit it to sites like YouTube or SlideShare. This will give you a backlink from these high-authority sites, and help increase the reach of your original content.

Another way to repurpose your content is to create an eBook or whitepaper from it. You can then submit this to directories and document sharing sites, which will give you additional backlinks.

Finally, you can also create spin-off articles from your original piece that focus on specific aspects of the topic. For instance, if you have a blog post about social media marketing tips, you could write a follow-up article that focuses on just one tip – like how to use Twitter for business promotion.
